Patrick McCabe’s The Butcher Boy. Probably the best book I’ve ever read for school. The protagonist is one of the most fascinating and memorable characters I’ve ever read. A hidden gem. It’s almost unfair that it’s out of print but check out used bookstores and libraries, it should be there. You need to read this.

Epitaph for Andrew Anderson, on his gravestone at Vauter’s Church in Essex County, Virginia. The barely discernible inscription reads:

Underneath thif ftone If buried the remainf of Mr. Andrew Anderson Merchant A native of Scotland who died the 23rd of September, 1764, in the 55th year of hif age. He was eminently endued with every Divine, humane, and focial virtue which earned him the love and efteem of all hif relationaf and thofe who came to be acquainted with him.

I can only hope that such things could be said of me at my paffing.

Yes, yes, this was very good. I really enjoyed the movie. Perhaps not at the caliber of Elizabeth, though to be fair its not really that kind of movie so comparing the two is wrong, its still worth many gold stars.
